...Acting as the Heart of Christ, the Spiritual Life of the
congregation will be cared for, comforted, healed, and matured.

“Come to me, all you that are weary and
are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and
learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
This
verse represents the Heart of Christ in several ways. First it is inviting and welcoming.
Second it offers comfort and rest –healing. But it also calls for
growth and transformation when Christ says,
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me…”
This is the essence of effective pastoral care – inviting, comforting and inspiring growth in Christ. This policy will be a departure in that it will no longer be “just come see
the pastor.” It will integrate the gifts of the pastor, elders and congregation as well as all other elements of church
life (worship, fellowship, organization) towards optimal Spiritual health.
